About the Contributor(s) Mike Berenstain

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

The Berenstain Bears books are instant classics, as far as I am concerned. These are books that I grew up reading and the new books in the collection (even though they are now mainly written by Mike Berenstain rather than Stan and Jan Berenstain), keep in line with the Berenstain legacy. The Berenstain Bears books are books that exemplify moral character, and I appreciate that.

The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings is the newest of The Berenstain Bears books.

In The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings, the bear cubs (including Honey) are headed off to school. Each of the cubs are excited, but also a bit nervous. What I love about The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings is that it points out that you should take your worries to God. This is a great example for kids who will be reading this book (and the parents, too!). There were several Bible verses referenced in the book, which is wonderful.

I think The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings is definitely a great choice.

The lazy days of summer are coming to an end and for the Bear family that means a new school year is about to begin. And with this new academic term comes changes. Honey Bear is old enough to start nursery school. She's excited but a bit nervous as well.

The anxiety isn't limited to Honey Bear. Brother and Sister Bear have their own set of worries. Will the classes be too hard? Will Honey be able to be away from her parents all day? Mama and Papa Bear assure them that all will be well by pointing them to Scripture.

"As it says in the Bible," said Mama, "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.'"

"That's Psalm 34:4," said Papa.

The next day was the first day of school which brought about a lot of initial excitement. Eventually worry and anxiety began to creep in. After school the kids settled down to do their homework. The unease from earlier returned and Papa Bear noticed.

"I know schoolwork can be tough," he said. "But remember, you can turn to God for strength and guidance. Let's pray together."

I don't think there is a Berenstain Bears book that I don't like. But this book, School Time Blessings, has to be one of my new favorites. Common fears that are contained in a new school year are addressed and Scripture is used to calm those fears! What better way can we arm our children to face what lies ahead of them?

If you've got a kiddo that's about to embark on a new school year this would be a great story to read to them. You can then discuss with them what some of their concerns for the new year may be. I look forward to reading it with my grands that are about to start a new year of learning!

“The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings” was sent to me by Zonderkidz - a division of Zondervan Publishing – free of charge, in exchange for my honest review.

“School Time Blessings” is another children’s picture book, in the Berenstain Bears collection. Mike Berenstain took over for his mom and dad in writing and illustrating this series. I love the Berenstains, and have been reading them since I was a little girl. I read them to my boys when they were little. And, now I read them to my grandchildren. I look forward to the day when my grandbabies read them to their own children. They have always taught good manners and morals, and now they include God’s Word in them. They also include questions to talk about and ways to put what they’ve taught into action.

In “School Time Blessings” the cubs are a little nervous about starting back to school. Mama and Papa teach them that they can ask God for help and guidance. They also learn to help each other.

I really like this book and would recommend it to young readers and those who read to and teach them.

School Time Blessings
Do your cubs worry about school starting? The Berenstain Bear cubs were worried. School was starting soon and they were stressing out about the subjects they struggled with. Little Honey Bear was worried about missing Mama and Papa Bear when she went to preschool. How would the Berenstain Bears get past these worries and fears? Help from God, was where they turned. This story is adorable, but it is so true because children stress and face fears that we often miss as their parents. This story is an example of how we can zero in on those stresses and help our children. 4 stars from this reviewer.

The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings by Mike Berenstain is a wonderfully cute book for kids! It’s back-to-school time in Bear Country but the cubs are nervous about the new challenges to come. Mama and Papa Bear remind their cubs that prayer and God’s love are always there to guide them and that they will always support them no matter the challenge. While my kids are homeschooled they enjoy learning what it would be like to go to school through the bear cubs. This is a terrific book to help ease anxiety about going back to school. The Berenstain Bears School Time Blessings is filled with beautiful illustrations and is such a fun book to read. My kids enjoy reading this before bed and love that we have a new Berenstain Bears book to add to our collection! Disclosure: I received product(s) for free, in exchange for my honest review. I only recommend products I've used personally, and believe will be good fit for consumers.

School just got out for the summer so it seems funny to be reading School Time Blessings about going back to school! But it will be time to go back before we know it and reading this book about our favorite Berenstain Bears is a great way to mentally prepare the kids for the coming school year.

Brother and sister bear were ready to go back to school and see their friends and enjoy their sports again. However, as is natural, certain fears also creeped in. It's normal to have fears for little ones about leaving their parents for the day. Even my six year old daughter who has been in school for three years has days where she cries and says she misses me. It's all a part of growing up!

For older kids there are fears about certain subjects they may not be good at or other fears like just fitting in and finding their place.

This book addresses all of these things and reminds kids that they are perfectly normal and definitely not alone in their concerns. It also reminds them that whenever they have a fear or concern, they can go to God in prayer. My kids and I pray every night before bed so after we started reading this book, we decided to start praying about the coming school year. It also opened the door for them to talk about their fears.

The end of School Time Blessings has a page with activities and questions which also generate great conversation. It gave my kids some ideas on what to do in the coming school year. The Berenstain Bears once again helped my family through a normal struggle! (Posted on 6/8/2016)

The first day of school is always an exciting time but nobody does it better than Bear Country. After a long and lazy summer Brother and Sister and even Honey are ready to get back at it. Even if that means work at least they won't be bored. But as I recall, when school starts back you get a little nervous about it all and Brother, Sister, and Honey are no different. Mama and Papa soon discover that there is something on the minds of their little ones and one day they sit them down to figure out what is going on with them.

Come to find out it's the usually back to school worries and Mama and Papa reassure their little bears that at the end of the long school day they will have them to come to but then they tell them about someone even bigger and better that can help them even more. God and the love that He has for them is far stronger than what Papa and Mama can have and He will definitely keep them safe and calm.

A great book on prayer!
