My kids share the same love of the season and all the activities that go with it. One of my favorite things to do that always turn out the best pictures is a visit to the pumpkin patch! This year at almost three years old will probably be the first year Jax really appreciates all the sites and sounds!
In preparation we have been reading Pumpkin Patch Blessings. This board book is just perfect for toddlers. It's a board book with a sculpted edge that ties in perfectly with the adorable cover featuring pumpkins and adorable little bunnies.
The book is very rhythmic and lyrical with a rhyming format of four line each. This style of writing is very catchy which makes it great for the little ones just learning to talk and trying out their new words. Jax loves to repeat things he learns and use them as often as possible. After just a few reads he was starting to repeat the ending phrases because he learned to recognize what was coming through their rhymes.
The illustrations are adorable and very reminiscent of my own childhood. It's not as cartoony as I initially expected and the images are very realistic with their content.
The activities at the pumpkin patch are very similar to the one we visit including the roasting corn, hayride and of course picking out a pumpkin!
Pumpkin Patch Blessings is a great introduction to the Pumpkin Patch and teaches kids to appreciate every little blessing the season brings. (Posted on 9/8/2016)

“Pumpkin Patch Blessings” is an adorable board book for young children. The author, Kim Washburn, has written a poem that reminds us of the blessings that God has given us in the fall season.
All to often we take the world around us for granted. We fail to notice the crunch of the leaves beneath our feet or the bright orange of a perfect pumpkin laying in the field. “Pumpkin Patch Blessings” is a gentle reminder to look around us and enjoy everything that God has given us.
The illustrator, Jacqueline East, uses warm fall colours to help set the stage for a cozy fall poem. Each image is a beautiful fall scene that will capture the imagination of every child.
My son loved the pages where they talked about a wagon ride. He immediately remembered his last birthday party and how we had gone on a wagon ride with his classmates. We talked about how friends are blessings from God and how we need to remember to treat them special every single day.
My daughter’s favourite part was when they children in the story were picking out the pumpkins. She recalled her trip to the pumpkin patch with her friends and all the excitement she had finding the perfect pumpkin for her Jack O’Lantern. We talked about how each pumpkin may not be perfect in our eyes, but to God each one is perfect. She remembered how each of her friends picked up a different shaped pumpkin to make their own “perfect” Jack O’Lantern.
The story is perfect for young children, perhaps in the toddler to Kindergarten age range. My daughter enjoyed the story but felt that the story was a little “babyish” for her, “after all mom, I’m 6 and a half now!”
“Pumpkin Patch Blessings” would be a beautiful story to share with little ones as we enter this fall season.

“Pumpkin Patch Blessings” is a children’s board book written by Kim Washburn. Its precious illustrations were done by Jacqueline East.
In this book, we take a trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out just the right pumpkin. On the way we get to see, smell, and hear many of the sights, fragrances, and sounds of fall.
Because this is a board book with bright, colorful pictures, the tiniest tot will enjoy flipping through it. I recommend it for little ones and those who read to them.

A love for children's books that are centered around pumpkin themes grew in me just like those little pumpkins. Fortunately, I had four little, cuddly pumpkins to read to during that time. Years have past, we no longer have a pumpkin patch, and we no longer have little pumpkins. They've grown into teens and young adults, but I still adore pumpkin books.
Pumpkin Patch Blessings is a sweet little board book from Zondervan, created by Kim Washburn and Jacqueline East. Even though I don't have any littles, I just had to get it! After all, grandlittles will come someday. ~smile~ Grammy has to be ready—right?
This little book has adorable pictures of bunnies, birdies, ladybugs, a doggy, a horsey, cute chubby faced children and lots of things to point out and name to your little pumpkin.
The story is written in verse.
"Ready to go?
We don't want to be late.
Just put on a sweater.
The weather is great.
God's creation is calling.
Let's go find some treasure.
Pumpkin Patch blessings.
Oh what a treasure!"
I give this little book five pumpkins!

In this sweet children's board book, we follow two children that share our day with them as they play in the fall landscape and then take their journey to the pumpkin patch with their family. This is a great gift idea for the family that makes that trip every year. I loved this sweet book just right for 4-8 years of age. It is so precious and the illustrations are beautiful!
