Zondervan provided me with a free copy of this book for reviewing purposes

Beautifully illustrated and scripted on glossy sturdy pages this hardback book introduces your toddler, to some of the characters from the Bible. Each story is laid out on 4 pages (2 story pages with 2 illustrated pages) and ends with telling the characters of that particular story "Good Night." Your child will be introduced to 27 bible characters including Noah, Adam and Eve and Daniel. Snuggling and cuddling in bed with your child and this book is a great way to introduce a bedtime routine, biblical characters and praying.
My favorite part of the book is the "Tuck Ins" that suggest at the end of each story something to pray about.
I would recommend this book for anyone with children between 2 and 4 years old, however could be used with children of all ages. What a great addition to any family library! (Posted on 5/2/14)

This sturdy, hardcover story book perfect for babies through pre-school age, features twenty-eight loved bible stories, twenty-one from the Old Testament and seven from the new Testament. Simple, four page narratives encourage sweet dreams as children snuggle into the covers prepared to listen.

Stories begin with Adam and Eve and end with Paul singing in jail with stories of Moses, Noah, David, Elijah and more sandwiched in between. Narratives of Jesus include His birth, the shepherds visit, calming the sea, and feeding thousands with "five loaves and two fish."

The author suggests personalizing story time by talking with your child about the story and looking at the colorful illustrations together. Stories end with a “Tuck in” feature that encourages children to talk to God in prayer.

This is an excellent choice for families with young children or as an inexpensive gift to expecting moms or young parents.

I really have enjoyed using this book with my little almost 2 year old. We love the pictures. The illustrations are cute and well done, catching my energetic toddler’s attention for a few moments, which is quite the accomplishment. Many of them include pictures of babies, so naturally, she loved pointing out all the little children and exclaiming, “Baby!” (Same for pictures that included various animals that she loves, like kitties, sheep, etc.)
I also love the “Tuck in” feature questions at the end of each short story. While my toddler doesn’t quite get the questions as well now, I can see how they could be great before-bed talking points as she gets a little older. They are thoughtful and focus on child appropriate themes from these stories.
I also personally liked the introduction suggestions. Many days are long, and it’s easy to rush through to the finish line to get that much needed adult time. However, this a great reminder for me to not be distracted in those last moments before my little one goes down; it’s the last chance in the day to focus on my relationship with her and remind her how much she is loved. My first impression of this book is that it's adorable. There are 28 different Bible stories told and each one has a beautiful, full-page illustration, followed by a full two-page illustration! The stories are a little long for my 15-month-old's attention span, but the pictures are vibrant and beautiful and she loves looking at each one. The pages are heavier than a standard book and have a lovely, glossy finish. But I don't always finish reading the text before she's ready to turn the page and I don't trust the pages to stand up to a one-year-old's roughness, so I'd say this book is best suited for 2-4 year olds.

The stories are adapted for bedtime - meaning that, while the general gist of the story is there, some creative license is taken to talk about what it might have been like for these Bible characters to get tucked into bed. None of it is out of the realm of possibility and nothing goes against what scripture says. It's just important to note that these are adaptations of Bible stories, not word-for-word Biblical account.

Overall, I really do like this book. I always love thinking about the people in the Bible as real people who did things and said things and felt things that weren't documented in the Bible itself. The illustrations are gorgeous and the prayer starters are helpful. We will definitely be keeping this one around for later this year, as it becomes more age appropriate for my daughter, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a little one. The children’s book, My Bedtime Story Bible by Jean E. Syswerda and illustrated by Daniel Howarth; is an illuminating and appropriate book to read to your little ones before bed. Suitable for all ages, My Bedtime Story Bible addresses each of the biblical people such as Adam and Eve, Noah, and King David, and how each of them settle down for bed each night. Each story is two pages long, and concludes with a night time prayer simple enough for a child any age.

While this is not our first children’s bible, it is the first children’s bible that is simplistic, yet interesting enough for all my children of various ages. I was immediately drawn to the vibrant, soothing illustrations of each story. The story of each character was short enough to keep my children’s attention without allowing them to become restless, and each ending prayer was short and direct for my children to recite. The overall mood of the book was very conducive for night time reading as the stories soothe the energetic minds of my children, and create a tranquil mood for bedtime. (Posted on 4/9/14)
