Chelsea Morris has always been responsible, dependable, and focused on her dreams of fashion design—a dream that will officially begin come fall, when she leaves for college in New York City. And as she settles into her role as the lead designer for the local summer stock theater group, she decides to make the most of her last summer in North Carolina. But with her best friend Emily busy working late and spending time with Zander, and tensions with Chelsea’s boyfriend, Todd, running high, the summer she envisioned seems to be falling flat.
Then Dylan joins the latest summer production. There’s something about the college boy that makes her feel free and alive, and soon she’s broken up with Todd, and is sneaking out late to meet Dylan at parties and breaking rules at the playhouse. But before she knows it, her exciting nights are interfering with her job, her role on the play, as well as her relationship with Emily and with her parents. Worse, Chelsea finds herself feeling more and more estranged from God.
As the summer becomes wilder than she ever dreamed, Chelsea must decide if her heart is leading her in the right direction after all.

The boy, Dylan, begins inviting her to his parties. Chelsea soon starts feeling pressured to go no matter what. She starts going to his parties with out Todd there, saying she has no time for him being boring. She begins being late for work, and falling behind on things, that she had been so on top of before. All of a sudden everything is slowly falling apart. When she begins to drink alcohol while at Dylan's parties, she feels all grown up until the next morning, where she can barely get out of bed.
Chelsea just wants to be included in the popular crowd and she feels no one understands that. Todd wants her to see what's happening to her and what's Dylan's trying to pull. Will she see it before it's to late?
Amy Clipston is an amazing author and I love reading her books. Miles from Nowhere is a wonderful book about the effects of peer pressure. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store next!

That being said, I wasn't entirely impressed with this book at first. I thought it almost childish and it took me a while to get into it. It was one of those books I debated not finishing but eventually I got really into the story and forgot about it. It wasn't until I went to write the review that I realized this was actually a book for young adults and not written for grown women like me! Well now that I know that it completely changes my perception!
This was written with young readers in mind so I was correct that everything was overly simplified because it was designed to be that way! The fact that I was able to get engrossed in the story as an adult says a lot. I can only imagine what young adults will think if I was this impressed!
It also makes more sense that the main character was young Chelsea Morris, an aspiring fashion designer. We learn about her love interest(s), her life in general and typical teen/tween life.
There are great challenges and moral dilemma's that face today's youth and Chelsea handles some things well and other things not so well. Even when she makes mistakes, she has her faith and foundation to fall back on to help her find her way.
I think this is a great coming of age story about a young girl that many girls can relate to, look up to and learn from. Miles from Nowhere brought me back to my own youthful days and while I enjoyed the story, I'm glad those days are behind me! (Posted on 4/26/2015)

“Miles from Nowhere” is a Christian fiction novel written by Amy Clipston. She is the best-selling author of the “Kaufman Amish Bakery Series” and many other Christian novels. I have a feeling this will be no exception! I always enjoy reading Amy’s sweet romances.
In this novel we see a romance between Todd Hughes and Chelsea Morris – high school sweethearts. They are head over heels until…Chelsea begins to feel unimportant when Todd has to work all summer at his parent’s restaurant. Chelsea is chosen as head costume designer in a community production of “Grease”. She becomes enamored with the “resident bad boy”, and male lead of the musical, Dylan, who convinces her to “make her final summer before college memorable”. She is pulled in by the sudden attention and begins to REALLY act out…sneaking out at night to go to “cast parties”, and even drinking. God is not going to let go of her, though she must face the consequences to her actions. Chelsea’s life is crashing around her and her guilt is tearing her up inside, but she continues her bad choices…until one night she gets into the car with a drunk and angry Dylan. She finds out who her true friends are…But, is she too far gone? Does she choose Dylan anyway? Or, does she humble herself, apologize, and choose Todd? Or…does she even recover after the drunk driving accident? You’ll have to read this excellent book to find out! :-D
I highly recommend this book!!
