The illustrations in I'm Going To Give You A Bear Hug! are really adorable. I think it's a fun bonus that each of the animals has the same polka dot pattern somewhere on them that the mom has on at the beginning of the book. What I love to do while reading I'm Going To Give You A Bear Hug! is to hug my child at the end of each hug description. The hug descriptions aren't necessarily something that will change the way you hug (how can you give a "knock over chairs, chase up the stairs" hug?), but it is fun to read and look at the pictures, anyway.
While I don't think that I'm Going To Give You A Bear Hug! is an "essential" on the book shelf, I really do enjoy it and my little one loves to read it. Hugging the ones you love is a good thing.

When my children were little, we developed a number of ways to give kisses—chipmunk kisses, butterfly kisses, bunny kisses, fishy kisses, raccoon kisses and such. This book of creative hugs brought back the memories for this momma.
It will be quite some time yet before my teens are ready to marry and give me grandlittles, but I'm saving this book. It's one that I think will help any young family enjoy making memories together. I imagine a whole lot of hugging and giggling and maybe a little tickling going on. ~smile~

“I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug” is a children’s fiction picture book. It was written by Caroline B. Cooney. Tim Warnes drew the precious pictures that accompany it.
In this book, the narrator promises all sorts of hugs from all sorts of animals – a dog, a cat, a horse, even a whale! There were several more animals that I didn’t even list! All of the hugs are given in fun and whimsical ways, to make the reader giggle.
This would be a fun book to read. I’d definitely recommend it to young readers, and all those who read to them.

So, as a mom, I tried to pass on a love for books to my two children and now do the same with my three grandsons. It makes me happy to see how Josiah loves to read! I'm very happy to see Caleb enjoy learning to read and love when Shane (and all three boys) will snuggle with me so I can read to them.
This is one of the reasons I love to review books on grandma's cookie jar - I end up with lots of wonderful books for my grandsons to enjoy . . . and for them to share with others as they give many of them to their Charter School and send them to their cousin in California. Plus, often I get to give them away to you as well!
I think starting the new year reading is a wonderful way to begin . . . one of the reasons for my recent reviews (and upcoming giveaways) of Your Alien Returns at this link and NIV Journal the Word Bible Large Print Edition at this link. So, when I was recently invited by Zonderkidz to read and review a new picture book I was very quick to say; "Yes!" - the title had me . . . I'm Going to Give You a Bear Hug! They sent it for me to review and today I'm very happy to share it with you!

I love this book! While I really love the different types of hugs in this story . . . after all, what isn't there to love about a Bear Hug, Horse Hug, Duck Hug, Sheep Hug and Whale Hug to name a few, my favorite is the Dog Hug . . . "I'm going to give you a dog hug. A knock over the chairs, Chase up the stairs, And sleep like a log hug." And, the illustration of the boy and the dog snuggled up together - well, it is wonderful! I'm Going to Give You a Bear Hug! could very easily become your grandchild's favorite bedtime - and anytime - storybook . . . it is sure to be one of your favorites! (And, just imagine the fun you could have with them thinking up your own kind of hugs! Like, maybe an Elephant Hug or a Lion Hug or perhaps an Okapi Hug!) (Posted on 12/22/2016)

This story is perfect for any age group but preschoolers and early, early elementary can appreciate it too. The lines are simple and straight to the point. The illustrations are so stinkin' cute, too. This book would make a good read aloud book but it is perfectly suited for bedtime, as well. It has just over 30 pages and has real simple lines and they are short. So it is not long and drawn out. My little one loved the story and I got a huge hug out of it to boot.
