Overall Rating
Uhmm... this book has blatantly racist overtones. Take particular notice of the book's characters portrayed using Black + White pictures. (See attached images from book.) The characters are wearing masks and look like clowns and jiggaboos and speak in broken English -- which I gather is the author's attempt to reflect the way she thinks uneducated southern Blacks spoke. "God Loves Us, Too" the page exclaims. Then the characters, in the broken English, say "Whenever we git to complainin' for long, we try to remember that complainin' is wrong. Cuz God loves us all, he done gived us a lot! We're right thankful all the things that we've got."

I am very disappointed that an organization such as Zondervan would allow this book to be published under its imprint.

I would love to hear the author's explanation for why she chose to put those two pages in this children's book. (Posted on 1/16/2017)
