This book even has a line that reminds parents of a discussion to have with your kids, "Do I have to go to bed, Momma?" Little Bear Asked," "Oh, yes! Sleep is very important. In fact it's one of the most important things you'll ever do!"
I must be one blessed mom because for the most part my kids go to sleep in the evenings fairly well. I know some parents who struggle every night to get their beauties to sleep. I can't promise that this story will get them to fall asleep but I can tell you that if you pause after the above line and talk about how important it is too sleep you might have some children re thinking their schemes for staying up the extra few minutes. Sleep is when our bodies grow, sleep is when our body heals, God told us we need to rest! So make sure you take some time to help teach your children the reason we need to sleep to help them understand what their body needs. (Posted on 9/4/2016)

This is probably the most interesting book I've read for getting kids to sleep because of the psychology behind it. It is actually written by a adolescent psychiatrist so there's a lot more behind it than just another book about bedtime.
Like many children, the Little Bear does not want to go sleep! Mama Bear explains how important sleep is for the mind and body. She tells Little Bear a story that is a whole story within this story. In the story friends enjoy a day at the beach, then they go through their own bedtime routine of dinner and taking a bath.
The story is almost hypnotic and filled with subtle messages about sleep that will make them feel sleepy.
You are all so tired as you get ready for bed (yawn here), even your toothbrushes feel heavy.
Talking about being sleepy and yawning and acting sleepy will naturally turn little ones thoughts towards rest. The first time I read this book my older kids actually asked me questions about if it was true that the brain needed rest for their growth and development. While I've said this to them before, hearing it in different terms from another source besides mom made them really think about why they need sleep.
The constant talk of sleep and getting tired in the book really gets them ready to go to sleep. I think it actually makes them WANT to go to sleep! In fact it can have the same effect on me while reading it! It's such a soothing, relaxing read that by the time you are at the end of Time for Bed, Sleepyhead, everyone is ready for a good nights sleep! (Posted on 9/2/2016)

This children’s picture book was written by Daniel G. Amen, MD. The beautiful illustrations were done by Gail Yerrill. Daniel Amen is a great brain doctor and child psychiatrist. He has included a little “warning” insert at the beginning of the book telling us not to read this aloud in a car because it could lull the driver to sleep. It is a book he has designed for, and which “contains specific suggestions that help facilitate sleep”. He even tells us when to yawn. I was laughing as I read it, because, I too, began to yawn.
If you need to get a sleepyhead to bed, I would DEFINITELY recommend this book to you!

The momma bear in the story tells the little bear cub that when we fall asleep our brain cleans itself and other fascinating yet interesting science related facts that children may not know. While I see that this is a book primarily for use at bedtime. I do feel that it is a bit overdone and frankly a little long for younger ages. My son is 6 and he was very bored with the story. He wasn't a big fan.
But on a side note, I do absolutely love the illustrations. They are bold, beautiful, and make the story come to life!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. (Posted on 8/18/2016)
