Well the illustrations are sorta funny to me because they look like cartoons, especially the expressions on their faces. How Mary and Joseph looked for the place to stay. And the special night when the baby was born. The star was brightly shining.Great story about Jesus being born until he was Thirty years old. When he then started to preach the word of God to everyone.

My Review:

A delightful retelling of the birth of Christ written specifically for 4-8 year old. This booklet is a retelling or copied version out of the Read With Me Bible. The story includes the complete retelling of the first Christmas, not just up to the birth in the manger but also the part of the story of Mary and Joseph along with Baby Jesus after they moved to a safer place to avoid King Herrod.

Also at the end of the small booklet, you have a few pages showing and telling a brief summary of what happened to Jesus as time went on. Thank God for the two obedient souls of Mary and Joseph, because of their parts in the Christmas story along many others we had a Saviour! The First Christmas Ever is a small paperback book geared toward children, ages 4-8.

The illustrations in The First Christmas Ever are by Dennis Jones, who has also illustrated the Read With Me Bible and the NIrV Super Heroes Bible. Although the caricature-like cartoon style is not my personal favorite, the illustrations are entertaining.

Despite the humorous/cartoonish style illustrations, the story in The First Christmas Ever is serious. The writing does take liberty (it is a story, not quoted from the Bible), but it remains accurate overall. (The only thing that immediately popped out to me as possibly inaccurate was the mention of "three" wise men, but that is minor, in my opinion.) The story is divided into two sections: "Jesus Is Born" (pages 4-29), and "Jesus Grows Up" (pages 30-31).

With a retail price of $1.99 - I think The First Christmas Ever is a must-have (and is a great gift option, too!).

This is a really cute retelling of the Christmas story. There are so many to choose from this time of year. However, the illustrations in this one are really cute and there are a few funny things about the art style (I love seeing how different artists portray similar scenes, after all I live in a house full of artists). For one thing Geek Girl pointed out to me that in several images the characters look cross eyed. And the expressions on the faces of the inn keepers as they are turning Joseph away are hilarious. Of course I love the legs of the dog. He is so pudgy and his legs are super skinny. Of course we giggled about that a little but over all the pictures are cute and the story never gets old. The art really has that comic strip kind of feel to it which all kids love. This book would definitely make a great stocking stuffer for your kids this Christmas. I would recommend this for your younger children around 4 to 8 years old. (Posted on 12/5/14)

The illustrations in this book made me giggle! The comic like pictures and the humorous facials on each face really made me laugh out loud. Mary had some really great facial expressions. I love how even in comic like illustrations the story still portrays the true reason to celebrate Christmas! JESUS! I had many laughs with my husband after the kids were in bed because the illustrator sure had a lot of fun drawing each picture. I especially liked the page where it showed Jesus as he was growing up. :)
My kids enjoyed the story which is about Jesus and his birth but it doesn't end there. It goes on to share more about Jesus and the work he did here on Earth.

The First Christmas Ever is a super cute Christmas book that I've enjoyed with my kids this year. It's a new spin on an old classic.

When I say new spin, the story is still the same. It's just written in a little bit more modern language and talks to kids in the way that they talk. It also embellishes on things that aren't really said in the Bible but we all assume like "All babies are special, but Mary's baby was extra special!"

Since we have a new baby in our house, my kids love all things baby. It puts the story of Jesus's birth in a whole new light for them since they have a much more literal understanding of what it is to be a baby!

I really enjoyed the illustrations in this book. They are cartoon looking but modern. There is a little bit of silliness to some of them like in people's facial expressions and even the animals. It kind of lightens up the story but not in a disrespectful way; just in a way that children will relate to more and understand better.

The First Christmas Ever is a great book for your kiddos this Christmas and would make a super cute stocking stuffer! (Posted on 11/24/14)

The First Christmas took place in a stable with animals, a manger and hay. The reason for the first Christmas was the birth of Jesus. You might ask why this birth was so special. It is because Jesus would change the world forever.

This is a delightful 31-page soft-cover little booklet illustrated by Dennis Jones. It tells the story of Jesus’ birth through age 30, in simple everyday language that can easily be understood by children from ages 4-8. The illustrations are so adorable they will be sure to delight the youngest children and keep them turning the pages.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an easy to understand story of the Birth of Jesus.
