"Before you, my home was decorated in style. After you, my home is decorated in love." So begins the tender recital of love from parent to child that tells the story of the changes that take place after a little one joins the family. Along Came You combines simple yet insightful text by Karona Drummond with vibrant illustrations by Estelle Corke in this board book that answers the questions: What happens when the pleasures of a tidy, carefully decorated home are traded for the excitement of dressing up and messy art projects? When quiet evenings and precisely planned schedules are exchanged for busy days and crazy nights? What happens when the desire to experience joy yourself is replaced with the desire that another might experience joy?

"Along Came You" is a very simple story as a mom tells her child what life was like before having her and after having her. The author will get any mother to recall similar stories and have you comparing your own personal before and after. What a wonderful gift it is to be a mother.
My two kids enjoyed the story and they are aged 3 and 6. Since it is a board book I was recommend the ages for 2-4.

If you have a preschool, toddler, or baby girl and want her to know how special she is, pick up a copy of ALONG CAME YOU and read it to her. Also perfect for a baby gift or shower gift. Recommended (by the publisher) for ages 4 - 8. I think it is more baby/preschool age (Posted on 5/6/14)

Personally I loved this book. I felt exactly this way when my son came into our lives. This would be a perfect book to include in a baby shower gift, especially for the first time parent.
Disclosure: I was given a copy of this Book by the publisher, ZonderKids, for review. I was not required to write a favorable review nor was I compensated for my review. The opinions in this review are my own.

I enjoyed this story as it presented a tender remembrance of life before and after the birth of the daughter. I liked the contrasts as it made me see the joy in both situations. I think many times parents complain about missing out on things because of their kids, but I think this was a great reminder to cherish all of the moments. I liked reading about the reflections in this story. It made me stop to think about how life changes and I think this will do the same for many mothers.
As I read the story, I was engaged by the cute and colorful illustrations. There are many times when I do not care for the illustrations in a book, but I really enjoyed these.
I really enjoyed this book. I found the illustrations on the pages to be engaging and the story to be meaningful and thoughtful.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own. (Posted on 5/2/14)

With a newborn that doesn't like to sleep and my other two kids no longer napping, I have been feeling a little down on parenthood lately! We all have rough times and I usually experience mine when I'm especially exhausted. The mind starts to wander and remember the good old days of clean clothes, sleeping in and leisure time!
Of course I wouldn't trade my kids for the world but the body does miss sleep! Along Came You points out all of the things we used to do before kids but then puts a positive spin on them. For example:
Before you, my world was quiet. After you, there is joyful noise.
Before you, eating out included candlelight and soft music. After you, eaten gout includes art and entertainment.
I loved how this took all the negative things we complain about and showed them for the positives they truly are. There was even one just for my current complaint!
Before you, I slept soundly all night long. After you, I wake up to watch you sleeping.
Well that last one isn't entirely accurate but close enough! The illustrations adorably depict the relationship between mother and child and all the beauty they ad to our lives.
Along Came You is a beautiful story of motherhood that would be sweet to give the moms in your life this Mothers Day!
