With a superhero looking Jesus, The First Easter Ever illustrated by Dennis Jones is a retelling of the Easter story. I had high expectations for this book. I thought the cover looked engaging and I was excited to read this.

As I started, I had mixed feelings on the illustrations. I liked the modern look of them, but at the same time, some of them seemed a little to odd.

I was also disappointed with the actual story. There were parts of the Easter story that were left out, which didn’t bother me as much as some of the things that were in the book. For example, Judas tells the soldiers that this is Jesus instead of the kiss, which is in the Bible. When Jesus goes to the Garden of Gethsemane in the book, it says that Jesus liked to be alone at times to talk to the Father. I didn’t think it did a good job getting the significance of what Jesus did there across.

I think there was a lot of potential for this book, but it just didn’t work for me.

The First Easter Ever is a small paperback book geared toward children, ages 4-8.

The illustrations in The First Easter Ever are by Dennis Jones, who has also illustrated the Read With Me Bible, The First Christmas Ever, and the NIrV Super Heroes Bible. Although the caricature-like cartoon style is not my personal favorite, the illustrations are entertaining.

Despite the humorous/cartoonish style illustrations, the story in The First Easter Ever is serious. The writing does take liberty (it is a story, not quoted from the Bible), but it remains accurate overall. The story begins as Jesus begins his ministry and ends with Jesus' ascension. (This is a fantastic companion to The First Christmas Ever, which tells the rest of Jesus' life on earth.)

With a retail price of $1.99 - I think The First Easter Ever is a must-have (and is a great gift option, too!).

A bright colorful book sure to capture the attention of toddlers and young readers alike. This book takes us from the beginning of His ministry and beyond to the ascension, centering on the Easter story. The book is in easy to understand vernacular and should hold the attention of young little minds. I was pleased with this presentation, it was very scriptural and on the level a young child will enjoy. The artwork is great, very bright and colorful. 4.5 stars from this reviewer. I have never read a book until now relating to the Easter story for children that shared as much as The First Easter Ever. In the simple retelling of the Easter story it is a more expanded view and it offers this to the reader. Along with relatable illustrations as well as very simple wording your child will get the complete retelling of our Easter promise within the pages of this sweet children's book. My sons enjoyed the book and I enjoyed it because it went into a lot more detail than other books tend to do.

It starts the Easter story at the time of Jesus' baptism, it explains that He was baptized by his cousin John. Many children are not even aware that John the Baptist was his cousin. It goes on to describe the even that took place in the garden of Gethsemane while Jesus prayed. This book is a better retelling based on the facts that it lists that are usually not available in other children's books.

We love the book and the illustrations are perfect!

The First Easter Ever is a great book for introducing children to the story of Jesus. It starts with Jesus beginning His ministry around age 30 and includes his baptism, gathering His disciples, Judas' betrayal and gently tells of how Jesus was tortured by the guards before being hung on the Cross. The books details Jesus' resurrection and his time with the disciples before His ascension. I think it's easy for children's books to gloss over the difficult details of this story. Jesus experienced terrible pain to die for our sins and I think it's important that children understand that from a young age. This book communicates that in a way that isn't graphic or scary.

This is a cute comic book looking story on the life of Jesus. The art work makes me giggle a little and it makes it fun for kids. The story does not hide the truth of the brutal death Jesus endured for us. It is a story that is perfect to share and discuss the true meaning of Easter. This is a very affordable book through Zondervan- $1.99! I know this story will be pulled out often and will for sure be used to describe and discuss Easter.
