We recently met a first grade teacher at our new church who challenged Reed to read something besides his beloved comic type books so when I saw the Bible Story Favorites from the I Can Read series; I knew this was the one!
We have a lot of books from the I Can Read series and the thing I like about this one is that it's 5 stories in one and includes an audio CD. This makes it perfect for both of my readers. Reed can pretty much read anything at this point but Paige is just starting first grade this year and basically knows letters and sight words. That's why I love the inclusion of the audio CD. She can listen and track with her finger to help her with word recognition while also having the story read to her.
Even though there are five stories in one; they are still the complete story. These stories are a great length for new readers and challenges them a bit but keeps it simple enough that they don't get easily discouraged. The five stories included in this version are as follows:
Adam and Eve in the Garden
Baby Moses and the Princess
Joseph and his Brothers
Jonah and the Big Fish
Jesus Saves the World
I thought these were interesting, seemingly random choices to put together but it doesn't really matter. They are all Bible Stories my kids enjoy and since we are now very familiar with The Beginners Bible and it's drawings and format, they were happy to dive in!
I gave Reed the choice for which story he wanted to do first for his daily reading and he chose Jonah and the Big Fish. This is always a favorite with children for some reason. I took a little video of him reading it so you can see the level of difficulty from a child who just completed first grade.
This just took two minutes to read so really, depending upon their reading level and patience (and yours!) this can be read all in one sitting or one at a time.
We really continuing to enjoy our books from The Beginners Bible and I Can Read is always a hit with my kiddos, especially Reed who CAN read! (Posted on 7/15/2015)

The five stories included are Adam and Eve in the Garden, Baby Moses and the Princess, Joseph and His Brothers, Jonah and the Big Fish, and Jesus Saves the World. Your sweet, precious child can read along as the CD plays. What better way to get them into the joy of reading than sharing these classic Bible stories with them.
**disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review through my participation on the Z Blog Squad. (Posted on 7/7/2015)
