The Adventure Bible for Toddlers is another addition to the popular Adventure Bible line from Zondervan/Zonderkidz. As with the rest of the Adventure Bible line, the Adventure Bible for Toddlers contains many references to "adventure". (It leans toward overkill of the word, in my opinion.)

The Adventure Bible for Toddlers contains 20 boardbook pages, featuring 6 stories from the Old Testament and 4 stories from the New Testament. Each story is 4 pages (2 page openings) long.

Old Testament stories:
- "The Adventure Begins" (Creation)
- "Noah's Ark"
- "Moses' Many Adventures" (Moses)
- "Boy Versus Giant" (David & Goliath)
- "Drooling Lions" (Daniel & the lions)
- "Fish Food" (Jonah)

New Testament stories:
- "Jesus Is Born"
- "Jesus Is Baptized"
- "Jesus and the Children"
- "The Adventure Continues..." (the Gospels)

The art in the Adventure Bible for Toddlers is not like the very cartoon-like drawings you will find in most toddler books, but are rather more on the realistic side. (The illustrations are done by Jim Madsen who also illustrated the NIV Adventure Bible, the NIrV Adventure Bible for Early Readers, and the Adventure Bible Storybook.) Although in general I appreciated the illustrations in the Adventure Bible for Toddlers, I did find one of the illustrations in the story about Jonah to be a bit graphic for my taste. (The illustration shows an angry looking fish spewing a green liquid, along with Jonah, from his mouth. This is accompanied by the story, which says, "Jonah got up and wiped himself off.")

The text is by Catherine DeVries who also wrote the Adventure Bible Storybook. The stories in the Adventure Bible for Toddlers are just that - stories. (They are not quotes from the Bible.)

The title (Adventure Bible for Toddlers) references this being a book for toddlers, but the back cover says "Ages 4-8". In my experience, kids generally tend to get over board books around age 4, so I would go with the "Toddler" on this, not the age recommendation. The boardbook pages are sturdy and the cover is hardback with a slight padding.

All in all, I think the Adventure Bible for Toddlers is a good book to have to share with your toddlers. With the limitations of a boardbook (not very many pages), you will also want to have other toddler Bible storybooks on hand to share with your little ones to give a more comprehensive overview of the Bible's stories.

My 18mo loves to sit and look at the pictures in the Adventure Bible for Toddlers, and will even let me read to her from time to time. I love that it is a boardbook and that the covers are padded. It is sturdy, and will stand up to the abuse my toddler dishes out.

At ten months Jax is not technically a toddler yet but he's definitely old enough to be interesting in books and loves being read to. We do family devotions every night and I thought the Adventure Bible for Toddlers would be a great book to spend some one on one time with Jax, more on his level.

This book is perfect for toddlers in so many ways. The physical design of the book definitely takes into consideration how rough little ones are on books! The soft cover with cornered edges even protects them from hurting themselves by poking an eye with the corner. The pages are super thick and almost feel like cardboard. There's no way they could tear these if they tried. And we all know they go through that phase where they try!

The book has ten Bible stories and each one is just four pages long. It's the perfect length for the short attention span of toddlers.

The illustrations are wonderful with bright colors. I liked that they were less cartoony than I usually see in children's Bible stories. They still have that look but also with a more realistic look as well.

The stories all have the Biblical reference which I think is important when changing the wording. It's important that it's on their level but equally important to show where the story came from. Maybe the adult reading it doesn't know the Bible and wants to learn more. The reference that means nothing to a toddler enables them to do this.

The Adventure Bible for Toddlers really takes into consideration the physical, mental and emotional state of toddlers making it the perfect first Bible for them.

I have a 3 year old son and he fits the age group for this fabulous Bible board book. Each of the ten stories are stories that we have talked and discussed before which helped him make connections when we turned the page and he knew what the story was before even starting to read it. I like board books for my son still because he can get a little rough still and I don't have to worry about pages being ripped. Board books are also very easy for little fingers to help turn the pages so the kids are more active during story time! (Posted on 10/24/14)

My Review:

Perfect for those little fingers to turn the page this board book was created just for those little toddlers in our lives that want to emulate Mom and Dad, with their very own Bible. Written in simple enough language and with colored illustrations this Bible is geared towards the 4-8 year range and only has 39 pages. It is short and sweet and straight to the point. Your toddler won't have a chance to get bored because the Bible stories therein are no more than four pages in length.

It is never too late to start reading the Bible to your child and this is the perfect one to start with. If you would like to learn more, you can at this link. My youngest was able to understand the stories and it created a good dialogue between the two of us.

This is a colorful, fun little book. Just perfect for toddler hands and fingers with the thick board style pages. The pictures are great and the stories are even more wonderful. One thing I noticed is that this book is simple enough that early readers should be able to read it on their own. A beautiful book perfect for any toddler and young reader. 4 stars from this reviewer.

This is the perfect Bible for your toddler. The cover lists from ages 4-8, but I think the illustrations are so beautifully done, that even a younger child would enjoy it.

There are ten stories from both the Old and New Testaments. This is a board-page type Bible that is compact, yet not too small even for the younger children. The pages are easy for little hands to turn and easy to wipe off, should those little hands leave some sticky grime.

This is a beautiful way to spend time sharing God’s word with you child from an early age.

Beautifully written and superbly illustrated.
