Spiritual Enrichment

Mad Church Disease
Anne Jackson
Join us for a lively, informative, and potentially life-saving discussion for anyone in ministry—vocational or volunteer—who would like to understand, prevent, or treat the epidemic of burnout in church culture. Using anecdotal parallels between Mad Cow Disease and leadership trends in the church, Anne will help us realize what church leaders are facing, but also to provide practical and positive treatment plans.

Christian Faith as Way of Life
Brian McLaren
Christianity has tended to present itself as a system of belief or as an institution of society. What would it mean to rediscover the way of Jesus as a way of life - radical, daily, contemplative, active, and communal? How would this way of life be learned through practices? What role would ancient practices have in this way of life? What would the church look like if it formed itself around this mission of spiritual formation for global transformation?

Signs, Wonders and the Kingdom Triangle
J.P. Moreland
We will clarify the relationship between a proper expectation of the miraculous, the current nature of the Kingdom, and the debate about so-called miraculous gifts. We will also explore practical steps towards seeking God for more of His Spirit's miraculous presence.

Spiritual Formation and the Kingdom Triangle
J.P. Moreland

We will clarify the nature of general revelation, especially natural moral law, explain its relationship to spiritual formation and the Kingdom of God, and provide practical suggestions for practicing certain spiritual, discipleship exercises.

God's Prayer Book: The Pleasure and Power of Praying the Psalms
Ben Patterson
How odd -- and wonderful -- that in the center of the Bible, God's word to us, is a book of prayers, words we speak to God. For in the psalms God has graciously condescended to teach us the language he loves to hear from us when we pray. Learning to pray is indeed like learning a language and a culture, and in the psalms we learn to believe and pray in the language and culture of the family of God, with the likes of David, Asaph, Moses and supremely our Lord Jesus. This seminar will offer helpful perspectives and practices on how prayer may be learned in the Book of Psalms.

Muscular Faith
Ben Patterson
A strong theme in Scripture describes the Christian life as a muscular exercise, a struggle to fight the good fight, finish the race, keep the faith, and win the crown. Is this outlook only for the spiritually elite, or for all who follow Christ? This seminar will make the case for the need to return to this perspective on faith as the norm for all Christians, and to repent of the therapeutic spiritualities that are so congenial to our culture.
