Spiritual Disciplines: Instrument for Spirituality?

The turn to spiritual disciplines, especially fasting, is distorting what spiritual disciplines are designed to accomplish. By examining what the Bible says about fasting, we aim to show that when we focus on what we can get from fasting we distort the discipline. Instead of seeing fasting as an instrument to grow in spirituality, we will examine how fasting is primarily a response to severe conditions.

Instead of focusing on the silence passages, we will focus on mapping what women did do in the Bible and challenge the church to let women do what God has called them to do. This seminar will show how understanding the Story of the Bible illuminates how we understand women in ministry.
