Position:    Acquisitions Editor         Position Range:    $42K-$67K    
Trade Books Hiring Range:    $42K-$55K

Responsibilities
•Maintain awareness of the editorial needs of the end consumer by reviewing current books and other sources of content including online and print; by attending appropriate conferences and conventions; by developing contacts at the consumer level; and by cooperating with other Zondervan divisions in the gathering and interpretation of formal and informal market research.
•Through proactive strategies, recruit authors who demonstrate the potential to successfully reach readers with excellent writing/communicating skills. This process will include initial evaluation and comment on proposals from author and agents and, when appropriate, sponsoring acceptable proposals through Zondervan’s acquisitions process.
•Participate in all Editorial Department functions such as retreats,strategy sessions, etc.
•Provide timely communication with current and potential authors and their agents regarding the status of their proposals and/or contracted projects.
•Negotiate with authors and/or agents in a manner that is fair and within financial benchmarks as indicated in the signed P/L statements (IPA).
•Oversee the editorial development of any proposal that has been approved and contracted. This will involve various stages of manuscript editing as well as the use of Zondervan’s developmental editors and qualified freelance editors.
•Provide administrative oversight of payments to authors and freelance contributors as indicated by contract.
•Participate as necessary in all marketing and sales discussions involving books the editor has acquired.
•Work collaboratively with New Media team to develop all multi-media formats and curriculum.

 
Knowledge/Experience
• BA in English, Communications, or related field
• Minimum five years publishing experience
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.

(Hours 8:00am – 5:00pm, M-F)
